The Four Corners Offense of Time Management

Before the shot clock was modified and installed into the
game of basketball teams would employ a four corners
offense to significantly slow the game down. The offense
was developed and popularized by long-time North Carolina
head coach Dean Smith in the early 1960s. You may be
thinking, "What does this basketball strategy have to do
with me and time management"? The answer is simple. To
become effective at controlling your choices, which
ultimately lets you make better choices, you have to become
an "effective worker". To become an "effective worker" you
must understand and deploy the concept of slowing down to
speed up. Slowing down to speed up allows one to do the
right things, for the right reasons, at the right time. To
summarize an "effective worker" is a results worker versus
an activity worker. This slow down to speed up strategy is
opposite of what most people think about when they think
about time management. For most time management translates
into managing time better so one can get more done in the
time available. The challenge to this logic is you can not
manage time. Everyone receives 86, 400 seconds each day.
Once those seconds are gone you get none of them back.
Therefore time is an irreplaceable asset. With a bank
account if you spend $100 dollars you can put $200 back in
the bank to replace the first $100 and have $100 for the
future. Unfortunately when your 86,400 seconds are gone you
can not replace or get any of them back. The solution for
trying to manage an irreplaceable asset like time is to
become effective. Becoming effective means you know how to
slow down the clock to make better choices in the moment.
The outcome, as in basketball, is you will only make a shot
with the highest probability of scoring. By making a better
choice in the moment one can become more effective. At the
Gulas Group we call this strategy one of many best practice
processes. The return for individuals, teams and
organizations from these best practice processes comes in
when you apply them to tool boxes like Microsoft Outlook,
Lotus Notes, GroupWise or any CRM software program in an
effort to create organizational consistency around planning
and organizing. Let us take a top down view of what
comprises the four corners offense of time management. The
first corner in this strategy is called Do it Now. The
second corner is titled Decide When. The third corner is
titled Delegate and the fourth corner is named Delete/ Dump.

- Do it Now

- Decide When (date Activate)

- Delegate it

- Delete Dump it

The remaining part of this article will review how to apply
one tactic within the four corner strategy that carries the
greatest value to individuals and teams. The four corner
tactic with the greatest value is titled Decide When. To
understand the Decide When tactic in the four corners
strategy one has to think in terms of a 90 degree drawing
of two lines on a piece of paper. On the vertical axis is
all the 50 or so to do's or what I call doable details.
Each doable detail represents an X on the vertical axis
line. Above the horizontal axis line one writes in seven
names of the week Sunday to Saturday. Now instead of
building a vertical what to do list on the vertical axis
line you will slow down in the moment of choice and ask
yourself these questions: what is this doable detail and
when do I need to do it and where do I store it till I need
it For example in the moment of choice on Friday morning I
realize this is a memo that I need to reply to and write to
Steve on Tuesday. Therefore, I move this doable detail to
Tuesday's list. Next I ask where I want to store the
information till it is needed again? Since it is an e-mail
I can insert it into to Steve's contact record notes
section or insert a hyperlink in the notes section. The net
effect is I now have a horizontal when to do list versus a
vertical what to do list. Now think about the power of
using this best practice process of date activating into a
tool box like Microsoft Outlook, Lotus Notes, GroupWise or
any CRM software program. One can get a sense that just
using one of the four corner tactics like decide when, will
allow you to make better choices in the moment, by slowing
down to speed up. At the same time it gives you an
opportunity to rapidly retrieve information from the future
across the horizontal when to do list. This impact becomes
even greater when one applies the best practice process of
prioritizing the when to do list based on importance,
highest values and urgency. Look for more best practice
four corner tactics in future articles.

College Football - The Train Has Left the Station, and Michigan State Missed the Departure

College Football - The Train Has Left the Station, and Michigan State Missed the Departure
Copyright © 2009 Ed Bagley

When the train was ready to pull out of the station this
year at East Lansing, the Michigan State University
Spartans had a chance to enjoy every stop on their way to
an unbeaten season.

They could have run the table at the pool hall. They could
have had a scenic and exciting journey, rising right up to
become one of the elite teams in the country. In addition
to the usual stops on the journey, the Spartans had two of
their three biggest hurdles—Michigan and
Iowa—at home, and did not even have to face Ohio
State because of the Big Ten scheduling rotation.

So much for perfect journeys.

When the train pulled out of the station this year,
Michigan State missed the departure for the second stop.
After blowing away a Division 1-AA Montana State team 44-3
in their opener at home, there must have been a lot of
chest pounding because the Spartans laid an egg against
their next opponent at home—Central Michigan.

The 1-A Chippewas from the mid-level Mid American
Conference, apparently only slightly less accomplished than
teams from the mighty Big Ten, came to East Lansing to win.
The Spartans showed up, but did not convince anyone that
they were ready for the season they should have had. A lack
of focus, attitude and execution did them in, 29-27.

Starting the season at 1-1, they did little to straighten
themselves out as they lost away games at Notre Dame 33-30
and Wisconsin 38-30 to slip to 1-3.

After beating Michigan at home 26-20 in overtime, they took
care of Illinois 24-14 and Northwestern 24-14, bringing
their record to 4-3.

When the now 9-0 Iowa Hawkeyes came to town, the Spartans
could have won but lost 15-13, and they compounded their
problems by giving up 42 points to Minnesota on the road
and losing by 8, 42-34. So the Michigan State Spartans now
sit at a humble 4-5, probably wondering what hit them.

Next up is Western Michigan at home. The Broncos are
another powerhouse team from Michigan with a 4-5 mark.

The Broncos are most certainly to be feared since they have
beaten such illustrious teams as 151st-ranked, 1-AA
Hofstra, 145th-ranked Miami of Ohio, 125th-ranked Toledo,
and 110th-ranked Buffalo. The Broncos are ranked 112th
among 120 major college programs.

Despite the tremendous odds against themselves, the
Spartans just might be able to beat the Broncos and even
their record to 5-5. Should they do so, they just might
have a shot at becoming bowl eligible at Purdue, or at home
against an 8-1 Penn State team that plans on using them for
fodder.

So what really went wrong at Michigan State this year?
Well, one thing is that coach Mark Dantonio wanted two good
quarterbacks and got them in Kirk Cousins and Keith Nichol,
who are both sophomores. Unfortunately, Dantonio could not
make up his mind who was better quarterback so he rotated
them—generally a bad mistake.

Dantonio did not put his total confidence in either player
and thus denied one of them the opportunity to become the
leader on offense. Think of Tim Tebow of the Florida
Gators, or Jake Locker of the Washington Huskies.

When a team rotates quarterbacks and the team wins every
game, it is still not the best situation, but it can work.
The minute a team starts losing, something Michigan State
has done a lot of this year, it does not work.

Name me one top team nationally that rotates quarterbacks.
Name me one national championship team, any one, that has
rotated quarterbacks.

The problem is the players, not actually meaning to, begin
to polarize their loyalty. They begin to point fingers and
lay blame. When a team loses, all players can be criticized
for their play, so they manufacture excuses for not
performing up to their potential.

Here is my message to Dantonio and Michigan State: Pick one
of the two, back him, put your confidence in him, play him
only until he succeeds or fails after several games. Do not
dump him too soon or neither quarterback will get the
experience they need to develop their leadership talent.

In the meantime, would it be such a bad thing if you
crushed Western Michigan and Purdue and became bowl
eligible? Maybe there is not a bowl game that would want
the Spartans this year, but let's find out.

(Disclaimer: Ed Bagley is a 1966 graduate of Michigan State
University who was there when the Spartans had their
back-to-back National Championship teams under Duffy
Daugherty in 1965 and 1966.)

The Importance Of Tracking Your Traffic

Traffic is the lifeblood of our online business. The more
the merrier in most cases.

For marketers though, this isn't always the case.
Marketers must have targeted traffic and to earn full from
it, they need to know where it is coming from. If you are
unaware of where your traffic is coming from, then you
aren't which traffic generation methods are working.

Many marketers make no effort to track their visitors.

By paying for advertising and not tracking your traffic you
are losing money! You must realize what advertising
methods are producing income. You can then increase your
profit by doing more of the adverts that are effective and
less of those which aren't.

Traffic tracking doesn't have to be hard. There are scripts
and services you can buy that will monitor your website
visitors for you. The features and price of these vary
greatly.

A script or service often makes it easier for you to track
your traffic.

Google Analytics provides a easy way to track your
visitors. This service is free to use. The good thing
about it is that it provides detailed stats and can track
very nearly anything. The bad thing is that it provides in
depth statistics and can track very nearly anything!

The complexity of it is a good and a bad thing because you
can find out so much about your website that it will
initially mystify you. However, once you have spent some
time understanding the results it will prove very useful.

You must first insert the code in to your web site. This
is a unique code for each website and must be put just
before the closing body tag at the end of each page.

Once it is reporting data, you need to drive a decent
amount of traffic to your site to get some good results.

As well as tracking all activity, Analytics provides an
overlay map showing you where your visitors click on your
website. By linking Analytics with Adsense and Adwords you
can understand how well these are performing for you.

A significant benefit of Analytics is it allows for goal
tracking which can track sales and subscriptions. If you
have a membership script on your website it can be complex
to get it working, but it is worth using.

The big appeal to most marketers is the fact that it has a
lot of features, more than many scripts and is completely
free. Google get to see how your traffic interacts with
your web site but that's a small trade off for such
in-depth analytics

Using Google Analytics will give you a good understanding
of where your traffic comes from as well as what it does
when it gets to your website. This information will assist
you to increase your conversion rate and your profits.

Planning and Booking a Holiday Cruise from South Africa

When it's time for a vacation, almost every member in your
group will have very strong ideas on what constitutes the
perfect holiday. Given the rather mind-boggling range of
choices, deciding upon the best destination will be far
from easy.

A cruise holiday offers distinct advantages over
traditional forms of travel, and allows you to avoid all
the stress and hassle of planning a memorable vacation.

Advantages of Cruising

Cruises allow you to visit many ports of call. Depending on
your preference, you can visit many different destinations
or spend time on-board.

Most cruise ships afford a variety of on-board
entertainment facilities, allowing you to interact with
people from different cultures and catering to the tastes
of each member in your group.

A cruise saves you time. Also, since everything will be
taken care of by the cruise-liner, you can spare yourself
the agony of having to make travel arrangements, pack
suitcases or plan meals.

Most cruise holidays offer great value for money and are
inclusive of food and on-board activities. Some services
could cost extra, but since you'll know this beforehand,
you're in control of your budget.

The Biggest Cruise Ships

There are a large number of cruise liners with
state-of-the-art facilities. According to the
Travel+Lesiure Magazine, the most enviable cruises to be on
this year are:

A Mexican Riviera cruise on the Splendor with the Carnival
Line.

The Caribbean, Mediterranean, and a journey from
Southampton, England to Rome on the Solstice or the Equinox
with the Celebrity Line.

Northern Europe, Mediterranean from December, Dubai,
Bahrain, Abu Dhabi and Oman on the Costa Luminosa;

Rome, Savona, Barcelona, Palma de Mallorca, Tunis, Malta
and Palermo on the Costa Pacifica, with the Costa Cruises
Line; and

The Baltic region, Canada, New England and the Caribbean on
the Eurodam with the Holland America Line.

Most Popular Cruise Destinations

Some of the tried and tested cruises include: Caribbean

Social Bookmarking:How To Get Massive Traffic From Stumbleupon

Many marketers invest thousands of dollars and hundreds of
hours generating traffic to their websites. Often, the
expense of acquiring the traffic is much more than the
meagre income made from the site itself.

Aside from the standard traffic generation methods, there
are additional Web 2.0 methods you can use to enhance your
visits.

One site in particular has the ability to make substantial
amounts of traffic rapidly.

This site is Stumbleupon.com. It has a large following of
people who are can't think of what else to do. The basic
premise is that you find a site you think is appealing (you
Stumbled Upon it) and submit it to Stumbleupon.

Visitors to Stumbleupon can look through the sites other
people have found. Votes from visitors determine how often
it is viewed.

Stumbleupon appeals to people who want to see what other
people are up to. People can see what other people are
doing and vote - something which is becoming ingrained into
out culture.

In order for your site to do well on Stumbleupon it must be
the kind of site that people will want to pass on and
recommend. Sales letters don't tend to do very well, but
controversial or contrarian articles do. Anything that is
cute, funny or entertaining will do well.

This may be an article, a video, or anything of a similar
ilk. Whatever you decide upon must be of interest to your
market. Combining a major event or news subject with your
subject can give it more interest to your potential buyers.
With a bit of planning, this can be done.

It is better for you if someone else does the first
Stumbleupon. This could be a friend, family or an
outsourcer. They will need some space separated tags as
well as a description and to know which category to place
it in for you.

After the initial Stumble, it needs other people to also
Stumble it to say they like it. This helps get more views
and starts a viral effect. Place a Stumbleupon button on
your website in order to make it straightforward for
visitors to vote.

Stumbleupon can send you thousands of visitors in a day
with an article with wide ranging appeal. This is a
powerful site you must be incorporating into your business
strategy. With the traffic potential from this site, you
are missing out on valuable backlinks and massive amounts
of traffic if you are not using it.

Stress and Your Diet

Today's lifestyle is full of stress. Competitive work
stress, family and home stress, and even stress from
leisure activities such as softball leagues, can add up to
make life unhealthy for the most health-minded of us all.
There are some foods that will help take some of the stress
off your body so that your mind can do its thing.

Milk is one of the most underrated antioxidants around
today. Whole milk is nearly completely absent from the
American household and skim has been relegated to cooking
and breakfast cereals only. Yes just a glass of milk a day
helps reduce stress and stave off depression. Milk is an
excellent source of vitamin D. Lack of vitamin D has been
linked to depression. Vitamin D is also produced by the
body when exposed to sunlight. During long winter
months—when there is not a lot of sun—a nice
glass of milk helps to boost your vitamin D levels.

Bringing your own snacks to work is a big help, too. Carrot
sticks and broccoli florets are two favorites. Vegetables
contain vitamins that our bodies need when we have a lot of
stress. They also contain potassium for endurance and to
help calm our nerves. Also remember that having veggies as
a snack is much less fattening than say, that snack
cake—which will give you a sugar rush then leave you
depleted and tired. Vegetables will give you the long term
energy you need to get through the day.

Fruits, particularly citrus fruits, are good stress
fighters as well. Vitamin C helps to fortify our bodies and
reinforce our immune system against colds and infections.
Let's face it, as if life wasn't stressful enough, who
needs to do a presentation with a head cold?

Try replacing that second or third cup of coffee with a cup
of chicken soup. Chicken soup is not only a comfort food,
but it is a very valuable stress relieving tool and easy to
take with you to work in a thermos. Chicken soup is low in
fat and is chock-full with iron. Some of the components in
chicken soup have been found to have an anti-inflammatory
effect on the body, thus relieving stress. You also have
the added benefit of the sense of hominess that comes with
the aroma of the chicken broth wafting up from the mug.
Talk about a bonus!

Spicy foods—more accurately peppers and spicy
herbs—release endorphins into the brain causing a
sense of well being. Even if you don't really have anything
to feel good about, wouldn't it be nice to feel that way
regardless?

Proteins are the backbone of muscle-building, but they are
also directly responsible for fueling our everyday lives
and keeping us going. Replacing the candy jar with a bowl
of mixed nuts is highly recommended. Up your fish intake as
well, as fish contain Omega 3—which has been shown to
be a stress reliever. Fish is also a great source of
protein. Just do the gang at the office a favor and leave
the cans of sardines at home.

Just these few changes in dietary habit can have a good
affect on your health in the long term. In fact, if you
think about it, most of these changes have the added
benefit of tasting better than their snack food
counter-parts. Plus, it just feels nicer.

Fun with Salad Dressings

We all buy salad dressings and with the exception of ranch
dressing, most sit in our refrigerator until we move or
they get up and walk out on their own. The salad dressing
market is being dominated by the ranch dressing cartels.
But you can single-handedly save the industry by
implementing these simple—and sometimes
unique—suggestions.

As a marinade for seafood, Caesar salad dressing is
incredible and very easy to use—particularly for
shrimp or other seafood you might be interested in
grilling. The steps are simple: put the seafood (let's say
shrimp) into a plastic container, pour in Caesar dressing
until the shrimp is covered. Cover the container in plastic
wrap and let it sit in the refrigerator overnight. It is
recommended that you use "white" seafood. Halibut is great
like this. Salmon on the other hand might not be so great.

While on the subject of shrimp, a unique and great cocktail
sauce is just a couple of whisks away. Take a cup of
Catalina or French salad dressing and add horseradish to
taste. The zing from the dressing conspires with the heat
of the horseradish to confuse and titillate the taste buds.
This is not for the faint of heart, however.

Here's an idea to help you spruce up the backyard BBQ a
little: use Thousand Islands dressing in the place of
ketchup, mayonnaise or mustard. If it worked for the fast
food clown, it certainly will work great for you. For those
with a more sophisticated pallet, Blue Cheese is very good
on a burger as well.

Italian dressing is another great marinade. Use this one
for pork chops, steaks and even chicken. The acidic
properties of the dressing bring a nice zing to any dish
and the herbs will make any meat pop with flavor.

Honey Mustard is often overlooked as a dip for chicken and
vegetables, but how about as a cooking ingredient? The next
time you make a Cornish game hen, spoon some thinned down
honey mustard over the top. Be generous and keep covered
between bastings. The sweet and tangy flavor will come
through in the chicken.

It was hinted at the beginning of this article that there
would be no ranch dressing recipes. Unfortunately, it
doesn't seem like even the author can escape the power of
ranch. As far as dips go for wings and fried foods like
jalapeno poppers, a very easy and unconventional recipe
exists that will confound your guests as they try to guess
what you put in it. Save your packets of hot sauce from
Taco Bell for this one. Add about a dozen (to taste) to 2
cups of Ranch Dressing. Mix in a dash of garlic salt and
pepper and you have one of the best onion ring/fried food
dippers around.

Experiment with different combinations of dressings and
meats. Often, some of the most outlandish combinations will
result in a culinary masterpiece that will leave the
critics in your house scratching their heads. Remember,
have fun and nothing is off limits.

Crock Pots and the Single Guy

Single guys aren't known for their cooking wares and this
is a well-earned distinction. After all, the single male in
today's world is too busy to cook a home-cooked meal. When
given a choice between slaving in a kitchen for an hour or
making level 80 while we wait on a pizza to show
up—where's the phone? Crock pots are a single guy's
best friend and he doesn't even realize it. Crock pot
cooking takes very little attention and most recipes
consist of throwing the ingredients in and letting the pot
do the rest. Here are a couple of "manly" favorites:

Swedish Meatballs

1 package frozen meatballs
1 jar chili sauce
1 jar grape jelly
1 jar taco sauce
1 tsp lemon juice

Start by placing the meatballs in the crock pot (frozen).
Mix the grape jelly and taco sauce in a bowl and add to the
meatballs. Pour the lemon on top. Add chili sauce. Set the
crock pot on low for 6 hour

Chili

Chili is the quintessential manly food, and every man
prides himself on his own flare for the dish. Here's a
recipe that's decidedly easier than most:

2 Cans Chili Beans
2 Cans Kidney Beans
1 Can Chopped Tomatoes
1 Can Green Chili Peppers
2 Fresh Jalapeno Peppers
1 lbs. Ground Beef
1 Packet of Chili Seasoning
1 tbsp Chopped Garlic in Oil

Open the cans of beans and add the contents to the crock
pot. Brown the meat and drain the juice into a can. Add the
chili seasoning. Add the browned meat to the crock pot.
Open and add the chopped tomatoes and green chili peppers.
Add the chopped garlic. For extra spice and flavor, chop
the jalapeno peppers and add those as well. Set the cock
pot to low for 6 hours or medium for 4 hours. The slow
cooking process of the crock pot will infuse the beans and
meat with the spice and taste of the peppers.

Lil' Smokeys

Always a hit at parties, the little smoky sausage is
probably one of the easiest crock pot dishes to make. But
we put a little bit of a spin on this three ingredient
recipe...

2 lbs Little Smokey Sausages
1 Bottle of BBQ Sauce
1 Jar of Grape Jelly

Without getting too complicated on how to make this one:
Pour it all together, set your new best friend (the crock
pot) on low and go watch a Clint Eastwood movie for a
couple of hours. Usually this takes about 6 hours on low.
The grape jelly acts as a sweetener and coagulates the
sauce helping it stick to the little smoky better. People
will rave on how great and special your version is. When
they ask what you did—don't tell them.

Pork Roast

It's crazy how easy a nice, juicy roast with veggies is to
make in a crock pot. So easy, in fact, that you should
probably never tell anyone!

1 Medium Sized Pork Roast
2 Cans Condensed Cream of Mushroom Soup
Salt and Pepper

Put the pork roast into the crock pot with the fatty side
up. This is important and will help keep the roast moist.
Salt and pepper, but be careful not to overdo it. Add the
two cans of cream of mushroom soup to the pot. Don't be
shy-- just pour them right on top. You can add carrots,
quartered onions and potatoes on the sides for that "one
meal, one pot" feel that grandma used to love so much. Set
the crock pot on medium for 3 hours then reduce to low for
2 hours. The pork will literally fall apart on the fork.

Most crock pots come with a mini-recipe book in the box and
usually they're pretty helpful. Also there are a ton of
online resources for the cock pot. The fact that crock pot
cooking is relatively safe and "fire and forget" really
helps out the single man. Besides, which is
better—leftover pizza or leftover chili?

Cooking Help for the Single Guy

Sometimes you can spend all day cooking a meal that would
be the envy of any great chef just to have it ruined by
something as small as the gravy being too thin or the soup
too salty. There are tricks around the most common of
kitchen gaffs that might help you salvage your meal and
your pride.

Salty Soup

You've just made some of the best chicken soup on the face
of the earth, but it still needs something. So you add a
little salt and take a taste. No, that was definitely not
it. Now your soup tastes like a portion of Utah real estate
and you have to start over. 'Not really. Peel a good sized
potato and add it to the pot. The potato will absorb a lot
of the excess salt. This works on 90% of the soups you will
ever make, except—ironically—on potato soup.

Too Much Heat

Your eyes are watering and the water you just drank is now
steam coming out of your ears. You might have added too
much spice... Try adding some hot water and a
potato—this might help a bit. If you're making chili
or a soup of some sort, try adding more of the other
ingredients to help distribute some of the heat. That
failing, put "Dante's Peak" on the TV and throw a volcano
themed party.

Burned One Too Many Times

Every kitchen should own a wooden spoon. It is critical to
have one on hand for soups and sauces. Not only will the
wood not scratch the surface of the pots and pans you paid
too much money for, but it will save your bacon if the game
goes into overtime and you don't stir as often as you
should have. The trick to saving burned gravy, soup, etc.
is to not scrape up the burned bits. Your gravy is only
burned on the bottom. Pour it ever so gently into another
pan using the wooden spoon to keep out the caked-on bits in
the pan you are pouring from. Add more of whichever liquid
the recipe calls for (milk, broth, etc.). Hopefully this
will help out. You should have recorded the game or paused
the DVR while you were cooking.

Too Thin?

To solve the age-old question of what to do with thin
sauce... Conventional wisdom states to either keep cooking
it until it thickens (condenses) or to add a little flour.
Both take a little more skill than it sounds. What's easier
and gets the same result? Pour a glass of cold water and
add 2 - 3 heaping spoonfuls of cornstarch. The mixture will
have the look of watered down skim milk, but have the magic
of Aladdin's lamp. Add a little at a time and allow the
cornstarch/water mixture time to heat up. As it heats, it
will thicken. Basically, the cornstarch will take on the
flavors you are mixing it with, but don't overdo it.

These four tips should help you right along and save you

Five Tasty Thanksgiving Treats

The nearer Thanksgiving draws, the more we seem to find
ourselves instinctively pulled towards the kitchen to
create comforting and scrumptious food. For some of us,
this means pulling out a dusty old book full of perfected
family recipes. For others, this means Googling "easy
Thanksgiving recipes." To save you the trouble, we've got
five great recipes here that are a scrumptious way to
satisfy your craving for holiday comfort food.

One of the first cravings you might start to feel nag at
your taste buds is the yearning for anything pumpkin. This
is likely a result of the pumpkin decoration littering
almost every lawn on the street. So, for starters, we have
an easy recipe for pumpkin nut bread. The best thing about
bread recipes is that you usually get at least two loaves
from one batch, which means you can eat one now and freeze
one to have on-hand in case company stops by.

Famous Pumpkin Nut Bread

Ingredients: 1 cup butter, melted 4 eggs 1 can (14-1/2 oz.)
pumpkin 1/2 tsp. salt 2 tsp. baking powder 1 tsp. baking
soda 1 tsp. ground cloves 1 tsp. ground nutmeg 1 tsp.
ground cinnamon 1 cup sugar 1 cup brown sugar 2-3/4 cups
flour 1 cup chopped nuts

Instructions: Pre-heat oven to 350 degrees F. Melt butter.
Add eggs and pumpkin. Beat thoroughly. Add sugars, baking
soda and powder, and spices. Beat thoroughly until all
lumps are removed. Add flour. Beat thoroughly. Add nuts and
mix. Spoon into 2 greased bread pans. Bake for 1 hour. Test
with toothpick to ensure loaves are ready.

The next item on our list of Thanksgiving dishes is the
ever-famous cheese ball. This particular item is usually
present at most Thanksgiving get-togethers, but that
doesn't mean you have to wait until the end of November to
whip up this easy snack!

Cheese Ball

Ingredients: 2 (8 ounce) packages cream cheese 1 (8 ounce)
can crushed pineapple, drained 1 tablespoon diced onion 1
tablespoon chopped green bell pepper 1/4 tablespoon
seasoning salt 1 cup chopped pecans

Instructions: Mix together the cream cheese, pineapple,
onion, bell pepper, and seasoning salt. Form into a ball
and roll in chopped pecans. Chill and serve with butter
crackers.

If your craving leans more towards sweet potatoes, then we
have the perfect recipe for you! Sweet potato balls are an
easy dish to prepare and are just as great on their own as
they are when complimenting turkey, ham, or any other meat
you fancy.

Sweet Potato Balls

Ingredients: 1 (40 ounce) can sweet potatoes, drained 1/4
cup butter salt to taste 3 cups crushed cornflakes cereal
3/4 cup real maple syrup 10 large marshmallows

Directions: Drain sweet potatoes and put into large mixing
bowl. Mash the potatoes with butter or margarine. Salt to
taste. Hand-pat mixture into 3 inch diameter balls. Roll in
crushed corn flakes and put into 9x12 inch greased baking
dish. Pour maple syrup evenly over all balls. Bake at 325
degrees F (165 degrees C) for 40 minutes. When the timer
gets to the last fifteen minutes, put a marshmallow over
each ball.

For those of you who are craving some serious Thanksgiving
meat, we've got a great turkey recipe for you to try out.
The best part about this recipe is that you don't have to
cook an entire bird?which means you don't have to deal with
carving up the leftover meat and storing it.

Turkey Breasts Stuffed with Cranberry

Ingredients:
2 boneless and skinless turkey breasts
1 (12 ounce) package herb-seasoned dry bread

Stuffing Mix
1 1/2 c. of dried cranberries (sweetened is preferred)
1 c. of pecans (chopped)
1/2 c. halved pecans
2 tbsp. olive oil

Directions: Make the stuffing as usual and set aside. Cut
the chicken breasts open so that they lay flat, place
between waxed paper and flatten with a meat tenderizer.
Remove the wax paper and spread the stuffing over each
breast (leaving a bit of room around the edges), then
sprinkle with most of the dried cranberries. Add all of the
pecans. Starting at the longer side, roll the breast up
similar to a Swiss roll. Tuck in the ends and tie it
together with string. You'll probably need about four bits
of string to tie the middle and one to go length-wise.

Place the olive oil in an oven proof skillet and let it
heat. Try to brown the meat on all sides, but don't cook it
thoroughly yet. Put the skillet in the oven and bake in at
350 degrees F for about an hour or until meat is white all
the way through. Try not to let these get too dry. Let the
turkey rolls sit for 15 minutes before removing the string
and slicing into 1/2 inch circles. You can garnish with any
leftover cranberries or pecans.

Finally, we have a recipe for one of the greatest
Autumn-time drinks: apple cider! What's better than cozying
up with a book or movie and a steaming cup of spiced cider?
It gets better, because this simplified version of spiced
cider allows you to keep your cider warmed in a slow cooker
for easy re-fills.

Easy Apple Cider

Ingredients: 1 (64 fluid ounce) bottle apple cider 3
cinnamon sticks 1 teaspoon whole allspice 1 teaspoon whole
cloves 1/3 cup brown sugar

Directions: In a slow cooker, combine apple cider and
cinnamon sticks. Wrap allspice and cloves in a small piece
of cheesecloth and add to pot. Stir in brown sugar. Bring
to a boil over high heat. Reduce heat and keep warm.

Now that you have a few recipes to tide you over until
Thanksgiving, you can hit the kitchen! Enjoy!

What Kind of Toys Will Help Autistic Children?

Autistic children, seem to have difficulty being interested
in the same kinds of toys that most children have. This
can be a difficult task when looking for toys that will
create interest, play, and fun. More and more companies
are being educated to be aware of the fact, that autistic
children need creative toys that are made for sight, sound,
and texture to keep their interest with play and fun.

Autism affects the ability of the child to communicate and
interact with others, play, and learn like other children
their age. In addition, it has a wide range of
characteristics and causes a multitude of different
problems. Many children feel uncomfortable interacting with
others. They would rather play alone until they feel more
conifident and comfortable to interact with others. Most
children with autism display a lack of social play or
make-believe play.

There has been extensive research on what kinds of toys and
play things children with autism most enjoy. Although it
will be different for all children, the following are some
examples of toys autistic children have found interesting.
First, they often enjoy toys that are visually stimulating,
like shapes, colors, and something as simple as bubbles.
They also enjoy visually stimulating objects like puzzles
and interactive books. Toys that stimulate touch, for
example, books or toys with flaps and different fabrics or
materials, seem to be the toys they gravitate to. Toys that
make noise, such as amimals, dolls, or other items that
play music or sing songs, are the ones, they enjoy. As a
child ages, it is important to incorporate computerized
software to assist in developing vocabulary and tasks, for
example counting.

Play therapy, or floor time therapy, is a play technique
that incorporates a specific toy for the interest of the
child, into playtime, and can help them to develop
communication skills. Many children with autism do not
relate to play into relationships or communication, so the
intent of play therapy is for the child to interact the way
they choose to. In addition, if the child chooses to play
with a toy car, he or she may choose another car to bump
into a different car, forcing them to get away from
obsessively focusing on the one car itself, but instead on
the act of play.

Many therapists and parents have been through the difficult
task of trying to find the right toys for their special
needs of children with autism. There were times in the
recent past that parents struggled with this problem and
could find no answers. Inventive and creative, parents,
and therapists decided to create toys that would engage
their children to have fun and play. To influence children
with autism one must be creative and develop new ideas.
Parents who have autistic children, are now becoming aware
of the numerous outlets for advice on toys that will
influence autistic children. One way to learn about
advice on different toys and what would be a good fit for
your child, is to search the web sights and find out what
would be advantageous for your child.

With the expansion of the internet at your fingertips, you
can connect with parents who are currently being challenged
with this issue of finding toys, and other parents who
have done their research and successfully found what is
right for their child, may be helpful for your child.
Searching for toys should involve being open to
creativeness, new ideas and understanding your child.

Easy Outdoor Christmas Decorations Ideas

If you decorate the inside of your house, have you thought
about decorating the outside too? Outdoor Christmas
decoration are fun for the whole neighborhood. Whether you
want to use energy efficient led lights or evergreen trim,
there many affordable ways to create a outdoor Christmas
decor that fills you with joy.

Many people have more stress during the holiday season..
Preparing for the arrival of family and other out of town
guests can take a toll on you. With so much to worry about,
your Christmas decorations shouldn't be one of them. There
are several cost efficient ways to decorate the exterior of
your home without spending a bundle.

Ask yourself this question. What will be my theme? Often
you will already own items that can be used for a
traditional theme. Items such as ribbon, scissors, tape,
garland, and other materials are usually scattered about in
drawers, closets and cabinets.

Try to use nature to help you decorate whenever possible.
You can find holly berries, pine cones, branches and
mistletoe almost everywhere. These items are free, earth
friendly and they are so much fun to work with.

* Make your own evergreen trim; this requires a little bit
of patience and practice. It will still beat paying $20 or
more to purchase a living garland from the store. Just
consider yourself to be the "Martha Stewart of the Forest".

Other items that you may need for your Christmas decorating
projects can be found at your local dollar store. You can
also check out discounters and garage sales for necessities
such as construction paper, artificial flowers, glue,
lights, wreaths, bows, markers, colored pencils, paint,
paper plates, glue sticks, Christmas bulbs, glitter, and
all sizes of Styrofoam balls.

Make decorating fun. Create kid friendly holiday
decorations that are colorful, inexpensive and enjoyable.
Invite all your family members to participate in this
kid-friendly project. Here are some easy to make crafts the
whole family can enjoy doing.

* Make some life size ornament cutouts from posterboard and
use them to decorate your door or porch. You can trim these
cutouts with material from the craft store.

* Decorating trees and bushes with bows is colorful and
affordable. Having all bows be the same color is
recommended. It gives the yard a more "pulled together"
appearance.

* Create some ornaments with ribbon and pine cones to hang
on tree branches. If you add peanut butter and bird seed to
the pine cones the birds will appreciate it.

* You can make your own luminaries at home. All you need
for ice luminaries are some empty quart size milk
containers or some large buckets. You can even make
Christmas luminaries from some plain tin cans.

Tin Can Luminaries

1. Use clean tin cans of different sizes for this
project. Make sure the cut top is smooth and safe. Remove
the labels from the cans and fill them with water.

2. Place them in the freezer. The frozen water in the
cans will prevent them from denting or collapsing as you
create Christmas designs on their surfaces.

3. When you have solid ice in your tin cans, you can
safely make designs using nails and a hammer. For fancier
designs, a hole punch works great.

4. Be creative with your design and make sure the light
will be able to shine through.

5. Remove the ice, place votive candles inside the cans
and decorate your front walk, yard or porch.

Here is another idea that can be used to decorate the
exterior of your home for Christmas.

Decorative Door Greeting

Items needed:

Garland in the following colors: green, silver, gold, red

Ribbon (red, green, silver, gold)

Tape (or thumb tacks)

Scissors

Fun and festive wrapping paper (Christmas themed)

Construction paper

Color pencils (or markers)

Glitter

Trim a piece of colorful wrapping paper so that it will fit
the length of your front door.

Attach the wrapping paper to your door with either
invisible tape (so there won't be glue marks when you
remove it) or thumb tacks.

Next you will need to cut two pieces of red and silver
garland the width of the door.

Twist the garland together.

Cut ¾ inch green ribbon and tie the ends of the
garland.

Cut two pieces of green and gold garland together. Cut
¾ inch silver ribbon and tie both ends of the garland.

Use a hook, thumb tacks or a small nail to mount the
garland on your door.

Cut four pieces of garland, (your choice of colors) the
height of the door.

Twist the first two pieces of the garland together.

Now you can twist the next two pieces of garland together.

Use thumb tacks to secure the garland in place on the door.

Making a Greeting Card for the Door

Fold the construction paper in half.

* Use the color pencils (markers) to write a seasons
greeting wish to your pending visitors.

* Using a brightly colored pen or a glitter pen to trace
your greeting adds nice touch.

* Once you have finished the card, place it at the center
of the door.

* For a different style, cover your door with cards. The
cards can all be filled in - or you can include a pen so
people can add their own message.

Learning how to decorate the exterior of your home for
Christmas does not mean that you have to spend a lot of
money. This should be a fun project that lets you add your
personal style statement to the season's festivities.

Ego-Boosters Versus Ego-Busters

At the most fundamental psychological level, there are, essentially, three kinds of people: Those that see the glass as half-empty, those that view the glass as half-full and those that will argue for hours as to whether it's a glass at all!

Now, let's look at the seven top ego-busting behaviors - How we can help those who use these destructive communication patterns, and how we can change these behaviors in our own speech.

1. Overwhelmingly Negative Speech - In order for an organization to flourish, and not flounder or experience flat growth, they need to pump up their positive speech. Quite often, these are people who suffer from the ball-and-chain syndrome - where every task (no matter how small) - is a crushing chore, an insurmountable burden.

• You: If most of your day-to-day dialogue is negative, pessimistic, sarcastic, hurtful, harmful, blame-ridden, guilt-inducing and filled with, "I can'ts augmented with extra doses of, "poor-poor-pitiful-me," it may be time for you to make a healthy change to the positive. Try to strike a better balance by choosing positive, optimistic, reassuring, encouraging, morale-building, forward-thinking, "I can" words.

• Others: If you hear others engaged in negative dialogue, first acknowledge them by saying, "Gee, it sounds like you are really unhappy," or "I can tell by what you are saying that you are frustrated." Then ask them, "Share with me something that is going right." You can also offer a comment such as, "Do you realize that when you complain/are negative about ________ that it really has a negative impact on my morale - and what I need from you is to hear you offer up some of the positive things that are going on around here."

2. "I Didn't Do It!" - Truth be told, no one really cares about what you are unwilling to do or can't do. They're only interested in finding out what you have done, are willing to do, or can do. Experts agree that if every person involved in a task took a mere 10 percent responsibility in a project's outcome (negative or positive), the work responsibility could be evenly distributed and shared.

• You: If you are blaming another, and the task truly wasn't your responsibility, then give the person who needs the task completed very specific and helpful information. Without this, you will seem lazy, uncooperative and a non-team player. If you continue playing the "blame game," no one will approach you with any new tasks. Task assigning = trust.

• Others: If someone is blaming another, you can ask them: "What can you do and what are you willing to do in this situation?" In these situations, blaming-throwing can go on indefinitely, so oftentimes, eliciting some information is
better than none.

3. Grapevine Gossipers - If you think that you'll have nothing to talk about if you omit all of the gossip in your everyday speech - You need to reassess your communications! Gossip is damaging, especially in a work environment. Just how far will employers go to stop gossip? Two years ago, municipal workers in Cascavel, Brazil, were banned from gossiping during working hours under a new law. Any public employee caught spreading rumors or gossip about their colleague ran the risk of being fired. The city claimed that civil servants have the right to work in a professional environment and said the new law promotes
integrity.

In 2001, a nationwide study conducted by a UK group, Industrial Society, claimed that, on average, American men gossip more than women. The idea that gossip is largely a women's thing is deeply ingrained; saying that men gossip more than women is like saying that men have more shoes
than women!

How do you define gossip? The authors of the study described true gossip as meeting five essential criteria:

• The person being talking about is not present;

• The people having the conversation have an established relationship with the subject;

• The information has no direct impact on the lives of the people conducting the conversation;

• The conversation is generally negative in tone, and

• The conversation is morality-based in its implications.

The study concedes, however, that men and women gossip quite differently. While women gossip primarily to bond with one another, and men do it to bolster their self-esteem.

• You: If you're the department's "gossip grapevine," try to cut your gossip by 10 percent. You'll soon find that it's easy to cut back on the time you spend "sharing news & views" about co-workers and managers. You want to feel included and embraced in your group, but what you're really doing is serving as the "enabler" of negative relationships.

• Others: When someone tries to share gossip with you, ask them, "Why are you sharing this information with me? I would prefer not to talk about ____ without him/her being here." Defend others in their absence, just as you'd wish for others to defend you. And remember, if a person gossips with you, they'll gossip about you!

4. "I'm Okay, But You're Not Okay" - Perhaps the most difficult behavioral pattern to deal with, passive-aggressive behavior plays an insidious role in
interpersonal communications. This "I'm okay, but you're not okay" (but I'm not going to verbalize this, I'll just subtly undermine you) conduct can prove frustrating.

• You: If you're the culprit in passive-aggressive conduct, you need to more carefully identify your needs. Don't expect positive responses from your negative innuendos and sarcastic "off-the-cuff" comments. Try to more articulately, concise and clearly state your needs.

• Others: Those that fall into passive-aggressive behavior tend to take negative jabs in their speech and then follow it up with comments like: "Gosh, I was just joking," or, "Lighten up!" and "Can't you take a joke?" remarks. In order to deal with this type of conduct, you can ask the person to repeat any necessary information, deadlines, agreements, etc., and (face-to-face) agree to specified terms. Whatever you do, don't be sarcastic or attempt to "even the playing field" with similar negative comments, this will only serve to further "fuel the fire" in passive-aggressive individuals.

Controllers & Micro-Managers - This is, at its primal level, a form of controlling behavior. • You: If you find yourself micro-managing your employees and co-workers, your core issue is trust. You don't trust people. As a result, people will not trust you. Let people set their own deadlines - typically, they'll set shorter deadlines than you would and, as a result, they'll have a better attitude about their project and their own abilities.

 • Others: When you find yourself working for a micro-manager, you need to start a positive communication campaign. Push a constant stream of communication out to your manager. Use phrases like: "This is where I am on this project, and unless I hear from you otherwise, I'll move forward to [Step B]." Send out a copious flow of updates and information, allowing the person to (slowly but surely) develop trust in your working relationship.

5. "Poor Me" Victim Mentality - This very damaging ego-busting behavior can spell "disaster" for a budding career.

• You: If you indulge yourself in "victim mentality," realize that you can badly (sometimes irretrievably) damage your career. Using the "poor me" excuse in professional environs can make you seem ill equipped in handling undemanding situations, thereby allowing others to deem you completely incapable of managing more stressful and challenging ones. Realize that it serves no positive purpose to whine and moan, "The other department got all of the new computers... We never get any of the good stuff," type of speech. It merely brands you as the department's top grumbler, grouch and complainer.

• Others: If you work with a person who continually views the half-full glass as half-empty, you'll need to assist them in moving their communications in a more positive direction.

6. Cyclops Syndrome - Diagnosing "Cyclops Syndrome" is easy. People who have it, have one big "eye"- that is focused solely on themselves. This self-centered behavior stems from egocentric mentality - "It's all about me . . ..enough about you . . .now let's talk about me!" I also call this "one-upmanship" communication or "OOPS," syndrome - or Our Own Personal Story (OOPS) syndrome.

• You: If you find yourself using "I"-focused dialogue, it's time to reassess your focus on others. If you find you don't congratulate others on their victories, but rather use them as (yet another) opportunity to build yourself up: "Oh, I already got a raise" rather than, "Congratulations on your raise!" - stop your egocentric speech patterns.

 • Others: People suffering from the "Cyclops Syndrome" don't allow others a moment "in the spotlight." Completely unaware of other's needs, they always have a better story, a bigger win or a more impressive development than anyone else (or OOPS - Our Own Personal Story). Self-centered Cyclops-sighted folks will always shift and bring the focus back on themselves: "Oh, you think you're having trouble on your ward, just wait until you hear mine," and "If you
think your child is doing well in school, mine is doing better..."

Get An Email Psychic Reading Straight To Your Mailbox

Get An Email Psychic Reading Straight To Your Mailbox With the advent of technology, the world is moving at a different pace. We all try to do things faster and easier. Getting a psychic reading is getting easier also. You no longer have to go into a psychic reader's parlor to get your reading. You can get a psychic reading by phone, email or online. By getting an email psychic reading you can be free to pick it up whenever you want.

It may seem wrong, but most psychics would rather give a reading without seeing the client in person. A lot of times the psychic can be distracted by the person and the reading may be inaccurate.

For those asking the questions, having a reading by email can eliminate the unscrupulous. In person or on the phone, the reader can get clues to your feelings by using your verbal and non verbal body language. If the psychic is not true, they can do a "cold read" on you. This is where they are just using your cues to determine if they are getting close.

An email reading may be done in one of many methods. The answers that you get may depend on the type of psychic that you use. He or she may use numerology, astrology or tarot cards. You need to make sure you ask targeted, specific questions so the answers will be relevant.

Use the answers that you get as direction only. Don't look for a turn by turn road map. A psychic reading is a way for you (through someone else) to make use of unused senses to get some insight.

When you want to get an email psychic reading, you get a specific question and send it to the psychic. He reads it, determines the answer and sends it back to you. You don't have to sit around waiting by your computer - it's in your mailbox along with your other messages.

By using email psychic readings, you know ahead of time how much it will cost. That way you don't have to worry about your bill getting too high because your psychic is talking slow.

Keep in mind, this is supposed to be only in fun. Don't ignore your common sense for the advice of a psychic. First, you know yourself and what feels right. Second, you could be getting bad advice if the psychic is not in tune
with your spirit.
